Assumptions and sources
Dates start on the day of arrival (taking up residence). The 14-day deadline can vary by commune: the commune confirms it. Driving licence: without a continuous stay of more than 3 months abroad during those 12 months. Sources: communes and cantons; FOPH (LAMal/KVG); OAC/VZV, art. 42.

What the Swiss relocation calendar tool does
Enter your employee's arrival date in the tool above. It counts forward and shows the dates on which the main deadlines fall. Your transferee, your HR team and your mobility provider then work from one shared schedule.
The tool is a planning aid. It does not file anything and it does not decide anything. Authorities set the final rules.
The deadlines it tracks
Three deadlines apply to almost every transferee who arrives from abroad.
| Step | Rule | Who acts |
|---|---|---|
| Municipal registration | Within 14 days of arrival | Transferee, with employer documents |
| Basic health insurance | Within three months of taking up residence | Transferee, employer informed |
| Foreign driving licence | Valid for 12 months, then a Swiss licence is needed | Transferee |
Reading the result
The municipal announcement is made on site. The authority asks for an identity document, the residence or work permit and proof of health insurance. The 14-day period can vary by municipality or canton, so the local office confirms it. See registering with the municipality for the full sequence.
Basic health insurance is compulsory within three months of taking up residence. If the period is respected, cover runs back to the arrival date. If it is missed, cover starts at affiliation, a premium surcharge may apply and the canton can assign an insurer (FOPH).
A foreign licence allows driving for 12 months, provided there was no continuous stay abroad of more than three months. The exchange application is due at the latest one month before those 12 months end. Exchanging more than five years after entry can require a control drive.
Assumptions and limits
- The calendar starts every count on the arrival date you enter. It does not read permit decisions.
- It covers general rules only. A specialist reviews each case through relocation support.
- It does not replace a permit check or the personalised checklist.
For the wider picture, read the checklist for the first three months and how to get a Swiss work permit. Support is described under settling-in service. The request form at the bottom of the page sends your dates to a specialist.
Frequently asked questions
Which date should I enter?
Enter the date your employee takes up residence in Switzerland. The deadlines count from that day. A different date moves every deadline.
Is the calendar legal advice?
No. It gives a general orientation based on published rules. The competent authority decides, and a specialist examines the individual situation.
Can the 14-day period differ?
Yes. It can vary by municipality or canton. The local office gives the exact period.
What if the three-month insurance period is missed?
Cover then starts at affiliation, a surcharge can apply and the cantonal authority can assign an insurer.
Does it include permits?
No. Permits depend on nationality and the authority's decision. Start with Swiss work permits.
